User Guide

This guide provides a detailed overview of how to use Moments: Life Journal, including feature instructions, frequently asked questions (FAQ), and support information. If you need further assistance, please contact us via the email provided at the end of this document.


Instructions

To access the Settings page, tap the icon in the top-right corner of the Home screen. All settings mentioned below are located within this section.

Home Card

  • Relive Last Year: Navigate to General Settings -> Relive Last Year to toggle this feature. When enabled, if you have a entry from the same date in previous years, a Relive badge will appear on the top-right of the card. If the entry contains photos, the card background will randomly display up to 9 of them. Tap Relive to view the memory.
  • Home Card Time Color: Go to General Settings -> Home Card Time Color to enable a dynamic background that shifts colors as time passes, providing a subtle visual representation of the flow of time.
  • Home Quote: Navigate to General Settings -> Home Quote to show or hide inspirational quotes at the bottom of the card. These are positive, uplifting short phrases that rotate randomly every time you launch the app.
  • View Statistics: Tapping the statistics summary on the Home Card will take you to the detailed Stats page for deeper insights into your life.

Space Management

  • Create a New Space: Tap the + button next to the Spaces title.
    • Free Users: Limited to 1 Space.
    • Subscribers: Can create multiple Spaces, up to a maximum of 1,024. If your subscription expires, you cannot create new Spaces, but existing ones remain accessible.
  • Space Actions:
    • Tap: Enter the Space to browse your entries.
    • Swipe Right: Quickly jump into the editor for that Space.
    • Swipe Left: Edit or Delete the Space. WARNING: Deleting a Space will permanently erase all entries within it. This action cannot be undone.
    • Long Press: Drag and drop to reorder your Spaces.

View Controls

The bottom center of the view provides three browsing modes:

  • Flow / Timeline / Map
  • Reset View: Tapping the icon of the currently active mode will quickly scroll to the top (Flow/Timeline) or reset the map to your current location/initial position (Map).
  • Default View: Set your preferred starting view via View Settings -> Default View Mode.
  • Map Display: Switch between Standard or Hybrid (satellite) styles under View Settings -> Map Type.
  • Space Theme Color: Under View Settings -> Space Theme Color, you can choose whether Space cards use their unique theme colors. If disabled, all Spaces will use a uniform default color.

Search Functionality

  • Scope: Supports fuzzy matching for both Titles and Content.
  • Quick Actions:
    • Tap the "Delete" icon in the search bar to clear your input.
    • Tapping the "Search" button or swiping down to close the page will automatically execute the query with current filters.
  • Smart Filters: Categories with active filter conditions will automatically expand when you open the Search page.
  • Aggregated Data: The Tags, Moods, and Locations filters display the count of entries associated with each item.
  • Location Accuracy: Location data depends on the system language at the time of entry. To prevent the same city from being split into different entries due to language changes, we recommend keeping your system language consistent.

Content Editing

  • Add Media: Tap the + button in the bottom-left of the editor to add photos or videos. Each entry supports up to 9 media files.
  • Toolbar Guide (from left to right):
    1. Tags: Select or create tags. Long-press a tag to edit or delete it.
    2. Location: Toggle location services. For existing entries, long-press to refresh and fetch your current location.
    3. Mood: Select an emoji to represent your current state.
    4. Editor Settings: Adjust preferences including theme color, auto-location, auto-weather, and image compression ratios.
    5. Dismiss: Quickly hide the keyboard or bottom sheets.
  • Weather: Automatically fetching weather information is a Subscriber-only feature available to subscribers.

Content Sharing

  • Flow/Map View Sharing: In Flow or Map view, select an entry, tap the top-right button, and choose "Share" from the menu.
  • Timeline View Sharing: In Timeline view, swipe left on an entry to open the share menu.
  • Rich Share Templates: Choose from a variety of beautifully designed sharing templates.
  • Export Image: After sharing, the app generates an image that you can save to your photo library or share to social platforms.

User Management

  • Login: We exclusively support Sign in with Apple. Once logged in, you can customize your avatar and nickname. All your account data remains stored locally on your device.
  • Subscription: Subscriptions are only available for logged-in users. The unique identifier used for subscriptions is strictly for verifying access rights and is never shared with third parties.
  • Membership Status: Tap Membership under your avatar to view subscription details. Tap Manage Subscription to be redirected to the official Apple subscription management page.

Security & Privacy (Subscribers Only)

Enable this feature to prevent unauthorized access to your journal.

  • Security Mechanism: Supports a 6-digit PIN and biometric authentication (FaceID/TouchID). The app does not read or upload your biometric data; all authentication information is stored only locally on the device.
  • Password Recovery: There is no way to recover a forgotten PIN. If you forget your password, the only way to regain access is to reinstall the app, which will erase all local data.
  • Subscription Expiry: If a subscription expires, the lock will automatically deactivate upon the next successful authentication following expiration. It will reactivate immediately upon renewal.
  • Emergency Unlock (High Risk):
    • If you are concerned about forgetting your PIN, you can enable Auth Protection -> Bio Auth Force Unlock.
    • Note: When enabled, if the PIN is entered incorrectly 12 times, the system will allow a forced biometric unlock. Additionally, you will be able to clear the PIN using biometrics in settings. Enable this only if you fully trust the security of the biometrics registered on this device.

Backup & Migration (Subscribers Only)

iCloud Backup & Restore

  • Backup: Tap Backup to iCloud to upload your local data to your private iCloud storage. This process uses your personal iCloud storage quota. Please ensure you have sufficient iCloud space available before backing up.
  • Restore: Tap Restore from iCloud to download your backup. The app must be restarted for the restored data to take effect.
  • Delete Cloud Data: Tap Delete iCloud Backup Data to remove files from iCloud. This will not affect your local data.
  • ⚠️ IMPORTANT: Restoring from iCloud will completely overwrite and replace all current local data. Ensure your current data is backed up before proceeding.

Local Import & Export

  • Export: Tap Export to Local to save all data as a file on your device.
  • Import: Tap Import from Local to select a previously exported file. The app must be restarted after importing.
  • ⚠️ IMPORTANT: Importing will overwrite all existing data within the app. Always perform a backup before executing an import.

FAQ

Is my data uploaded or accessed?

No. All your entries and records are stored locally on your device. Only you have access to them. Aside from the third-party SDKs used for subscription verification and the Weather API, we do not collect or read any of your private content.

Can I use the app offline?

  • Yes. If you do not use subscription features or weather services, the app works entirely offline with no network restrictions.
  • Subscribers: Your device may need to connect to the internet occasionally to verify your subscription status.

How do I migrate data to a new phone?

  • Method 1 (Recommended): Use iCloud Backup & Restore. Back up on the old device and restore on the new device using the same Apple ID.
  • Method 2: Manually transfer the exported .zip file to the new device and use the Import from Local function.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. You can tap Membership -> Manage Subscription in the app, or go to:

  • System Settings -> Apple ID -> Subscriptions
  • App Store -> Profile Icon -> Subscriptions

How do I change temperature units?

Go to General Settings -> Temperature Unit to toggle between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉).
